ESPN analyst Greg McElroy encouraged fans to have perspective for Alabama kicker Joseph Bulovas, who had his potential game-tying 30-yard field goal attempt hit the left upright as Alabama fell in the Iron Bowl.

“Gut wrenching loss for Alabama, but anyone that directs hatred or vitriol towards the Alabama Kicker needs to take a step back and remember that nobody is hurting more than him,” McElroy tweeted. “It’s a team game and it always comes down to more than just one play. Win as a team, lose as a team.”

Bulovas was 1-for-2 on field goal attempts and 6-for-6 on extra points. Coming into Saturday, Bulovas was 7-for-9 on field goal attempts for the season.

ESPN had this remarkable stat earlier Saturday that said, “Since Nick Saban’s first season at Alabama in 2007, Alabama kickers have now missed 101 field goals, the most by any FBS team in that span. That’s 8 more than any other team.

Joseph Bulovas is the only SEC kicker to miss multiple field goals from 30 yards or closer this season.”
