Jalen Milroe was featured on ESPN’s list of way-too-early Heisman candidates to watch in the 2024 season.

Milroe, Ole Miss’ Jaxson Dart, and Georgia’s Carson Beck were the SEC quarterbacks who made the list. Texas’ Quinn Ewers was also included, and he’ll be playing in the SEC next season if he returns for another season with the Longhorns.

Milroe is coming off a career year in his first season as Alabama’s starter. The Alabama QB has 2,718 yards passing and 35 total touchdowns heading into the College Football Playoff and a Rose Bowl matchup vs. Michigan.

Here’s some analysis of Milroe from ESPN’s Mark Schlabach:

Benched after a home loss to Texas in Week 2, Milroe regained the starting job and led the Crimson Tide to another SEC championship and CFP appearance. He has a rare combination of size (6-foot-2, 220 pounds), speed and arm strength, and he became a more effective pocket passer throughout the 2024 season. Milroe should flourish even more in offensive coordinator Tommy Rees’ offense in Year 2.

A win for Milroe in 2024 would give Alabama 3 Heisman winners this decade. DeVonta Smith and Bryce Young were the program’s most recent winners in 2020 and 2021.

Alabama had a shaky start to the year after losing to Texas in Week 2. The Crimson Tide then won their next 10 games to reach the SEC Championship. Milroe then led his team to the SEC title and a spot in the CFP.

The Crimson Tide will face Michigan in the Rose Bowl on New Year’s Day.
