Joel Klatt lists two SEC QBs as his frontrunners for the 2024 Heisman Trophy, but one may be someone SEC fans haven’t considered.

The FOX broadcaster lists Texas QB Quinn Ewers as his favorite. A founding member of the Big 12 Conference, Texas will join the SEC next season.

Klatt named Alabama’s Jalen Milroe as his No. 2 candidate. Rounding out his top five — all QBs — are Michigan’s J.J. McCarthy at No. 3, Oregon’s Dillon Gabriel at No. 4, and Colorado’s Shedeur Sanders at No. 5 (yes, Klatt played QB for Colorado).

“I think we could have a great race next year, I really do,” said Klatt, pointing out that several QBs, including Gabriel, McCarthy and Sanders are very experienced.

Klatt said he picked Ewers in part because of the Longhorns’ talented roster and momentum from this season. Ewers will face competition at his own school from Arch Manning, who played sparingly as a freshman and qualifies for a redshirt this season. There is speculation Manning could transfer with 4 years remaining of eligibility.

“If Arch Manning were the quarterback, then he would be on this list,” Klatt said.

Klatt said Milroe’s emergence as the obvious starter will allow the Tide coaching staff to tailor their offense to his skills.

“Look at what this guy can do — throwing the football and with his legs,” Klatt said of Milroe. “They know what they are offensively with Jalen Milroe. They can build around him for the next season.”
