The greatest College GameDay personality and the greatest college football head coach were both present for the recent Team Focus fundraiser at the Mobile Convention Center this week, at least that’s probably how Lee Corso would describe it.

During his appearance at the event, Corso proclaimed Alabama’s coach to be the greatest of all time in college football. Here is what the ESPN College GameDay host had to say regarding Saban at the fundraiser.

“I believe Nick Saban is the greatest college football coach of all time,” Corso said according to Creg Stephenson of AL.com. “I know he tied ‘the Bear’ with his sixth national championship, but it’s harder to win nowadays. It’s like you’re playing a different sport than it was back in the old days. … What he has done at Alabama is amazing.”

That’s high praise but not inaccurate commentary from Corso.

Saban was asked to provide his reaction to those comments and, as you’d probably expect, he brushed off that commentary.

“I don’t really… Everybody is entitled to their opinion,” Saban responded when asked in a video posted by AL.com on YouTube. “I think there have been a lot of great coaches in college football. I think we’ve been very fortunate to have a lot of great players and a lot of great coaches who have helped us have success.

“Our focus is on how successful can we be with the group of players that we have right now. That’s what I think we owe them and we thank everyone who have been a part of allowing us to be successful at Alabama. But I also think every thank you has an I.O.U., so we owe every player in our program everything we can do to help them and support them.”

Part of what makes Saban so successful is his focus on what’s in front of him and not his previous accomplishments. Judging by his response, Saban is only focused on adding to his lengthy accolades and not the least bit considered about his feats at this point in time.
