Former Alabama and Buffalo Bills QB AJ McCarron was traded on Saturday to the Oakland Raiders for a 2019 fifth-round pick, and Brent Musburger had the perfect way to welcome the McCarron family to Oakland.

If you remember, Musburger was criticized during the 2013 National Championship game for gushing over McCarron’s then-girlfriend, Katherine Webb.

Here’s what Musburger said on Twitter Monday morning:

During Alabama’s 42-14 win over Notre Dame in the 2013 National Championship game, ESPN’s cameras were put on McCarron’s girlfriend, Katherine Webb, who was sitting with McCarron’s family.

Musburger called the former Miss Alabama USA a “lovely lady” and “beautiful.” He also said to his broadcast partner Kirk Herbstreit, who is a former quarterback, “you quarterbacks get all the good-looking women.”

Musburger then said, “if you’re a youngster in Alabama, start getting the football out and throw it around the backyard with Pop.”

According to the New York Times, the awkward situation resulted in Webbs’ name trending on Twitter, and she racked up nearly 100,000 followers because of it. Webb later said that Musburger’s cringeworthy compliments ended up helping her career.

McCarron and Webb married in 2014.
