Mark Stoops had plenty of good things to say about Alabama’s secondary.

On the SEC coaches media teleconference on Wednesday, the Kentucky head coach was asked for his thoughts on the Alabama defensive backs. Stoops was not short of praise for the group.

“Really special. You expect that, it seems like it’s year in and year out with Bama always having high picks,” Stoops said. “Even with the addition of (Caleb) Downs, the freshman, just adds another level, I think their nickel is a fantastic player as well in (Malachi) Moore. You know the corners can always cover, so just a really tremendous group.”

Alabama is 8-1 on the season and the Crimson Tide defense is only giving up 205.9 passing yards per game. The defense has also forced 8 interceptions on the season.

Freshman defensive back Caleb Downs has played in every game, racking up 76 total tackles with 48 of those being solo tackles. He’s got 2 interceptions, 1 tackle for loss, and 1 pass breakup on the season as well. Senior defensive back Malachi Moore has added another 37 tackles, with 19 solo tackles. Moore has also added 4 pass breakups and added 1 interception on the season.

Alabama heads to Lexington take on Kentucky this Saturday at noon ET on ESPN.
