Alabama made headlines last Sunday when 5-star quarterback Bryce Young flipped his commitment from Southern California to Alabama. He visited Alabama last weekend, and he had been a USC commit since June 2018.

247Sports ranks Young as the nation’s top dual-threat quarterback, and he showed why Friday night.

In his first game as an Alabama commit, he gave fans a glimpse of his potential future. Young completed 26-of-37 passes for 416 yards and five touchdowns. Young’s team, Mater Dei, improved to 5-0 on the season. He’s thrown for 1,688 yards and 19 touchdowns in 2019.

In two and a half quarters Friday night, Young had thrown for over 350 yards and all five scores. Below is a 61-yard pass midway through the third quarter, as well as his first-half highlights:

Tua Tagovailoa is projected as a top-five pick in the 2020 NFL Draft, and it’s unclear if he’d leave Alabama early; however, if he does — and assuming Young’s commit sticks, it could be a seamless transition at quarterback.

Yes, Mack Jones and Taulia Tagovailoa currently back up Tua, but Young may be too good to keep off the field as a freshman.
