While the speculation surrounding Mac Jones going No. 3 overall to the San Francisco 49ers has been rampant for weeks, NFL insider Ian Rapoport is reporting the decision hasn’t been made by the team despite the fact the start of the draft is just days away.

Jones is still in consideration to be selected No. 3 overall in the draft, but according to NFL Media’s insider, North Dakota State’s Trey Lance is also in discussion to be the pick.

In a recent segment on NFL Network, Rapoport shared his latest report.

“The 49ers are at, right now, either Alabama quarterback Mac Jones or North Dakota State quarterback, Trey Lance,” Rapoport shared. “Which means, they are unlikely, or certain not to, take Justin Fields at No. 3.”

Interestingly, Rapoport claims the 49ers have no intention of letting either player know they will be selected until they make the pick on Thursday night.

The 2021 NFL Draft begins on Thursday, April 29, and runs through Saturday, May 1 from Cleveland.
