Nick Saban addressed the status of Alabama WR Thaiu Jones-Bell on Thursday afternoon.

Jones-Bell had been on Alabama’s 2023 roster at SEC Media Days in July. On Thursday, however, his name was no longer listed. Saban said the wideout is sidelined for health reasons.

“From a personnel standpoint, Thaiu Jones-Bell had some medical issues. So he’s on a medical this year,” Saban told reporters in his postpractice press conference.

Jones-Bell has been a member of the Crimson Tide for the past 3 seasons. A former Miami Carol City standout, Jones-Bell was rated 4-stars, the No. 25 wideout and the No. 143 player nationally on the 247Sports Composite for the Class of 2020.

In 2020, Jones-Bell played in 3 games, recording a reception against Arkansas. He played in 5 games in 2021, logging 2 catches for 16 yards against New Mexico State. Last season, Jones-Bell played in 4 games, recording a 5-yard catch in UA’s win over Vanderbilt.

Jones-Bell’s future is unclear. If he’s able to return to the football field, he has multiple years of eligibility remaining, with the COVID-19 waiver counting for 2020 and a redshirt applied to 2022.
