Alabama’s offense has been impressive in the first half against South Carolina but Nick Saban’s defense has been far from perfect from Columbia.

Tua Tagovailoa has completed 16 of 22 passes for 286 yards and three touchdowns, two of those have gone to running back Najee Harris with another coming on an 81-yard pass to Henry Ruggs. His counterpart, freshman Ryan Hilinski has completed 13 of 20 passes for 126 yards and a single score.

Both teams have struggled on third down, as Alabama has converted one of five attempts while South Carolina has converted three of nine attempts.

That’s something Saban hit on heading into the locker room at halftime with his team up 24-10 heading into the break, according to Mike Rodak of AL.com:

“We stopped ourselves with penalties, and we’ve given them too many opportunities with penalties, jumping offsides on defense. We stopped ourselves down there. We had a scoring opportunity, and we don’t get the field goal.”
