Nick Saban helped Nate Oats’ squad get in the right mindset for an important SEC clash with Texas A&M.

Ahead of No. 15 Alabama’s 100-75 win over Texas A&M, Oats discussed Saban’s visit in a pregame radio interview.

“We had Coach Saban talk to our team yesterday,” Oats said, per Mike Rodak. “Always go back to his process. Like, honestly, the more you talk about championships, the less you’re focused on what you should be doing today.”

In his postgame press conference, Oats shared more about how the special visit came to be.

“(Saban) is, to me, maybe the best team coach of any team sport in modern college sports history, and he’s right here,” Oats said postgame when asked about his radio reveal. “I talked to him shortly after he retired, he told me when he was going to come back to town and I asked him if he wouldn’t mind speaking to the team when he came back to town.

“So this was in the window. We kind of had a week off between games, and I thought it’d be good for our guys to hear from a respected coach like him on what took to win. He was great. He churned out NFL players. He’s great. He said, ‘I don’t know much about basketball, but here’s what I can apply from football.’ I thought he was really good. He’s obviously won a ton of games.”

Saban was in the crowd for Alabama’s 10th conference win and 18th victory overall. The Crimson Tide are atop the SEC standings and on a two-game winning streak.
