Nick Saban has quite an impressive coaching tree, inlcuding three current SEC East head coaches.

During his recent visit to ESPN, Saban was asked by Cornell Jones what his hypothetical dream staff of coaches he’s worked with would be if he had just accepted a position as an athletic director.

“Jimbo (Fisher), Kirby (Smart), Will Muschamp, Jim McElwain, Jason Garrett,” Saban rattled off without naming a complete staff.

Fisher, Saban’s former offensive coordinator at LSU, will get his chance to become the first former Saban assistant to defeat Saban when FSU takes on Alabama in a highly anticipated Week 1 showdown. Since Fisher was named first, it seems that Saban was naming him the head coach, even over Dallas Cowboys coach Jason Garrett.

Next in line were the three SEC East coaches. Smart has an impressive collection of national championship rings from his eight seasons as Alabama’s defensive coordinator. Two of those national championships came while McElwain was offensive coordinator. Muschamp was on Saban’s staff at LSU and with the Miami Dolphins.

With so many head coaches in Saban’s dream staff, one wonders how the Alabama coach would come up with all the money to lure them from their current positions and seven-figure salaries.
