TCU is a perfect 8-0 as it heads into the home stretch of the 2022 season, 1 game better than Alabama, which has a blemish on its 7-1 record thanks to its loss at Tennessee last month.

Yet, when the initial College Football Playoff rankings were released on Tuesday night, Alabama was 6th while TCU was put 1 spot behind at 7th.

Is this fair? Should the Crimson Tide still be ranked ahead of the Horned Frogs even though TCU is perfect so far and Alabama has a loss?

ESPN’s college football analysts got right to it on Wednesday morning on First Take, debating 1 of many issues when it comes to the 1st CFP rankings.

Resident SEC expert Paul Finebaum had no problem with Nick Saban’s crew being ahead of TCU, and neither did Chris “Mad Dog” Russo.

“It’s just not comparable. The Big 12 is good. It’s entertaining football. But come on, you bring TCU over to the SEC and send them to Tennessee and send them to Georgia, and send them to LSU and Arkansas, and they’re going to have a loss,” said Finebaum. “They’re going to have a loss anyway. We get all upset about this stuff and it takes care of itself.”

Russo hated to admit that he agreed with Finebaum on the issue.

“I agreed with everything you said. You and I are on the same page,” said Russo, before looking toward the titanic Tennessee-Georgia showdown on Saturday afternoon and ignoring the TCU topic.

Clearly, Finebaum and Russo weren’t biting on the potential controversy involving the placement of TCU so low in the initial CFP rankings.
