New York Jets defensive lineman Quinnen Williams was arrested Thursday night at LaGuardia Airport while carrying a handgun, according to NJ.com. It’s unclear if the weapon was loaded at the time or if he was trying to board the plane with the weapon.

Williams was arrested for criminal possession of a weapon. He does, however, have a permit for the gun in the state of Alabama, but New York has very strict handgun possession laws. In New York, possession of an unloaded operable handgun is a felony. Possession of a loaded handgun also has a sentence of 3.5 years if convicted. It is generally only legal to carry a concealed weapon in the state if it has a New York license.

Williams was still being processed by the Port Authority Police Thursday night, and there’s been no official report of Williams’ arrest.

In addition to a legal situation, Williams could face NFL discipline for the league’s personal conduct policy.

The Jets drafted Williams with the No. 3 overall pick in the 2019 NFL Draft. Following his stellar career at Alabama, Williams played in 13 games as a rookie, starting 9 of them, and making 2.5 sacks.
