Alabama head coach Nick Saban has quarterback Jalen Hurts’ back.

When asked Monday whether he thought criticism of Hurts’ passing ability was “overblown,” Saban had a strong reply in defense of his quarterback. Saban emphasized Hurts is helping Alabama create the balance it’s looking for.

A reporter asked Hurts on Tuesday about Saban standing up for him in regards to the criticism.

“When you hear your coach come to your defense like he did yesterday, what does that do for you?” the reporter asked.

“He has my back, and I’m glad to see he’s taking that route,” Hurts said. “As a leader on the team, I continue to lead and continue to win. And that’s what we have to do … We have to win.”
