Everyone knows Alabama QB Jalen Hurts can run the ball. In fact, he’s been one of the SEC’s best runners, regardless of position, the past couple of seasons.

However, if he wants to keep his starting job over Tua Tagovailoa, he’s going to have to improve as a passer. Through the first two quarters of the Alabama spring game, though, Hurts did a lot of running and missed a couple of passes.

After one run, coach Nick Saban was overheard on a live mic criticizing Hurts’s play, saying the third-string quarterback, Mac Jones, was doing a much better job passing:

There’s still a second half to be played, but Hurts needs to do a lot more to leave Alabama fans excited about his chances to land the starting job.

Right now, it looks like it’s Tagovailoa’s job to lose, even though the rising sophomore didn’t play in the A-Day game due to a hand injury.
