The Arkansas Razorbacks thought they got a big boost to their receiving corps when they added 4-star JUCO WR Brandon Martin to their 2017 recruiting class.

However, through the spring practice session and so far in fall camp, Martin has failed to live up to expectations.

According to WholeHogSports.com, wide receivers coach Michael Smith wants to see more out of the highly rated former JUCO star:

“I don’t think he’s where he needs to be yet,” Smith said. “This is only his 18th practice and I’m not making excuses for him, but I just have really high expectations for him.

“I’d like to see him be in better shape. I had a concern with his weight over the summer, but he’s working on that, trying to get that down. Also, I want him to know the playbook. He had a whole summer and I don’t feel he’s where he needs to be.”

Obviously, it’s still early, so Martin still has plenty of time to turn things around and become one of the Razorbacks’ best receivers this fall.

Still, it sounds like Smith and the rest of the Arkansas coaching staff want to seem him take a few steps forward quickly or they may start to look at different options.
