LOOK: Mizzou misspells 'Bret Bielema' in game notes for Arkansas rivalry
It’s no secret that Arkansas coach Bret Bielema is under a lot of heat these days. After the school fired AD Jeff Long on Thursday, it seems likely that Bielema will be the next domino to fall.
However, if it is Bielema’s last game in Fayetteville, he’ll have to suffer one last injustice, as the Mizzou media guide couldn’t even be bothered to spell his name right.
As you can see below, the Tigers’ media guide has Arkansas’s coach listed as “Bert” instead of “Bret” Bielema:
Check out Missouri’s game notes… “Bert Bielema”

Will that add some flames to the Battle Line Rivalry? That remains to be seen, but Bielema will have a bit of extra motivation.
Perhaps “Bert” Bielema could have a chance of becoming Arkansas’s next head coach. After all, if he wins, he’ll be 1-0 after Friday’s game.
I don’t know why but fans from lots of SEC programs have been spelling him Bert all week. Does spell check prefer one name over another?
BERT (usually all caps) is a common, rather derisive nickname for the soon to be former razorback incarnate
(Seriously though, BERT in a red sweatsuit looks just like a fattened up for Thanksgiving razorback. It’s deeply disturbing.)
He looks more like a Bert. I used to type Beliema instead of Bielema, but I think I finally remember how to spell it correctly. Now that he’s on his way out.
When do we get to stop calling this a rivalry? Mizzou and Kansas are rivals. Michigan and Ohio State are rivals. Bama and Auburn are rivals. Mizzou and Arkansas are barely acquaintances. They’ve played each other 8 times in the history of ever…
Most of us feel the same way. It’s a trophy game but not a rivalry.
Rivalries are earned and developed over time. When ours with LSU started, it wasn’t a rivalry. Key games in the past 25 years have turned it into one. A lot of older LSU fans still don’t consider it one from what I understand.
So maybe Mizzou will be a rival for my kids generation. For me, I’d rather have our annual game against SCar back.
Agreed.
It’s not a rivalry, but it’s a fun series that I always look forward to.
Give it time, it will get there, especially games keep coming down to wild 4th quarters.
I sure don’t care about Kansas anymore. I’d rather play Arky with the hope of a better game than wish for the Mid-2000’s quality of Kansas to ever, ever, ever reemerge. Arky will nearly always provide competition more so than Kansas.
And Bert is an intentional pejorative misspelling of Bret’s first name, initiated by “fire-Bert” folks in Arkansas. Remember what Jack Nicholson used to call Nurse Ratshed in “One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest”?
Gotta say last year’s game was a good start for some rivalry build up. And God knows that Pig Sooey s*** is about the most annoying, inbred redneck thing out there. Had a neighbor down the road with a hog lot once. Made the whole county smell like s***. The only fan base proud to go “hoggin”, for everyone else its a last resort.
The calling of the hogs is sacred. You better watch your mouth.
