A popular topic of debate this offseason is who is the best quarterback in the SEC.

Alabama’s Jalen Hurts won SEC Offensive Player of the Year. Mississippi State’s Nick Fitzgerald is considered one of the conference’s most exciting players. Baylor transfer Jarrett Stidham has many anticipating a big year Auburn. Seemingly lost in the shuffle sometimes is Arkansas’ Austin Allen, who led the SEC last season in passing yards (3,430) and passing touchdowns (25). Critics will point to his 15 interceptions, but that number could come down if the Razorbacks can give their quarterback a clean pocket.

Last season, when Allen didn’t face pressure he had the highest rating among returning SEC quarterbacks.

Arkansas allowed 35 sacks last season, a number that needs to go down for the offense to be successful in 2017. The good news is that offensive linemen tend to get better with experience, and the Hogs return multiple linemen with starting experience, including standout C Frank Ragnow. Coach Bret Bielema kept Ragnow from participating in the spring game and other contact portions of spring practice to avoid injury. It might prove to be a genius move if Allen faces minimal pressure this fall.
