If he didn’t already know, Chad Morris just found out how big of a rebuild he inherited in Fayetteville.

The Razorbacks just lost to North Texas by a jaw-dropping score of 44 to 17 in Fayetteville. It was an embarrassing result considering the Razorbacks were coming off a loss to a winless Colorado State team the week prior. If there was any doubt leading up to this game, Arkansas has the worst team in the SEC by a wide margin.

Starting quarterback Cole Kelley tossed four interceptions in this contest, with true freshmen Connor Noland and John Stephen Jones each added one apiece to give the Razorbacks six in the game. Morris, known as an offensive coach, can’t seem to get that side of the ball going early in his tenure. The Razorbacks also went four of 16 on third downs.

While some may call out John Chavis’ unit just by looking at the box score, the defense played well, all these considered.

North Texas was limited to three conversations on 16 third-down attempts and 95 rushing yards. The touted Mean Green quarterback, Mason Fine, was limited to 24 of 45 passing for 281 yards and a touchdown — not terrible considering how many opportunities he was given by all the turnovers by Arkansas.

One silver lining on the day? Few Razorback fans were in attendance to watch this game as the announced crowd of just over 44,000 may have been generous by about 20,000.

Before the SEC even arrives for the Razorbacks, this season appears completely lost and a bowl game is out the window unless Arkansas manages to upset several conference foes. The 2019 season can’t arrive soon enough for Morris and company, which is really saying something with the new coaching staff only three games into their tenure.
