Report: Former Arkansas OL Frank Ragnow avoids serious injury after being carted off
On Saturday evening in a preseason game against the Buffalo Bills, Detroit Lions C Frank Ragnow was carted off with an ankle injury.
It looked bad in real-time, and he was unable to put weight on it walking off the field, but the Lions did get some good news on Saturday.
Per NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, the former Arkansas standout only suffered a minor ankle sprain on the play:
Sources: #Lions standout center Frank Ragnow, who left last night’s game with a scary-looking injury, suffered just a minor ankle sprain, source said. Some good news.

Here’s a video of Ragnow walking off after the injury, and below that is a still image from the moment he suffered the sprain:
I went back and looked at the Ragnow injury. He didn't put any weight on it on the field but appeared to test it out as soon as he got to the sideline. #Lions pic.twitter.com/gjU6SArhc7

#Lions C #FrankRagnow was carted off with what appeared to be an inversion injury to the right ankle. Best case: moderate classic lateral ankle sprain. Worst case: sprain with associated fracture. Hoping for the best. pic.twitter.com/KCASJgLNS2

Overall, this is good news for the Lions and for Ragnow. However, many say ankle sprains are more painful than broken ankles, so Ragnow will likely need at least a week or two to fully recover.
