WATCH: Stephen A. Smith lauds Hunter Henry's on-the-field production following season on the IR
Stephen A. Smith might want to spend a little more time researching the NFL before he talks about it on national TV.
During a segment on Thursday’s edition of “First Take,” Smith stated several inaccuracies while discussing the Chargers-Chiefs matchup. Perhaps the worst among them was the praise he lavished on former Arkansas tight end Hunter Henry, who has spent the entire season on the Chargers’ injured reserve.
Smith’s comments about Henry come about 20 seconds into the video below, and the reactions from co-hosts Max Kellerman and Tedy Bruschi are priceless.
This is exactly what happens when you don’t know football.. HUNTER HENRY HASN’T PLAYED ALL YEAR!! Look at Bruschi face ?? #Wtf #OhDearGod #WatchFootballBro #DnD pic.twitter.com/fnlQEFevMl

But Smith wasn’t wrong just about Henry. He whiffed on several aspects about the Thursday Night Football matchup, which we’ve listed below.
- Smith names Chiefs running back Spencer Ware, who’s out with shoulder and hamstring injuries, as one of the key players to watch.
- To add to the Henry gaffe, Smith says the tight end will be matched up with Kansas City linebacker Derrick Johnson, who is currently not on a roster.
- Smith calls the Chargers “the San Diego Chargers” despite the team’s relocation to Los Angeles in 2017.
All in all, not a great segment from Smith.
