Auburn RB Kerryon Johnson currently has 862 rushing yards — 138 away from 1,000 for the season.

The Tigers have one more game in which Johnson can try to reach the big milestone — Monday’s Sugar Bowl against the Oklahoma Sooners.

Though it won’t be easy to get him there, when OL Alex Kozan was told how many yards Johnson needed to reach 1,000, he told AL.com that he and his teammates will do everything they can to help him:

“OK,” Kozan said. “We’ll try to get him there.”

Kozan said it would be a great accomplishment not only for Johnson, but for the offensive line as a whole if both Kamryn Pettway and Johnson finish the year with 1,000 yards. He added that he’s excited for the challenge against an Oklahoma defense that’s susceptible to the run:

“We’re a rushing attack,” Kozan said. “That’s why we’re a top-10 rushing attack in the country. We definitely look to establish the run. They’re not the best team in the country at stopping the run, so there’s definitely an opportunity there.”

Having both Pettway and Johnson with 1,000 yards would give the Tigers their first 1,000-yard rushing duo in nearly 40 years. James Brooks and Joe Cribbs last accomplished the feat in 1979.

See if Kozan and his offensive line mates can get Johnson to 1,000 yards in Monday night’s Sugar Bowl. The game kicks off at 7:30 p.m. Central time and can be seen on ESPN.
