Auburn basketball’s 2024 recruiting class has taken another hit. Labaron Philon announced Friday that he has decommitted from AU.

Philon, a 4-star point guard who was recently named Mr. Basketball in the state of Alabama, shared a statement to On3’s Joe Tipton about his decommitment. Philon says staff changes at Auburn led him to recommit. A week ago, 4-star center Peyton Marshall cited staff changes in his decommitment note.

“First off, I would like to thank Bruce Pearl, his staff and fans for recruiting me along this journey! After the news of changes in the program and staff, me and my family have to think about my future. With that being said, I would like to re-open my recruitment. Truly and extremely blessed to be recruited by the Auburn family! Couldn’t thank you guys enough!”

Philon, a Baker standout from Mobile, Alabama, had been committed to AU since Feb. 3. Earlier this month, Philon was recognized as Alabama’s Mr. Basketball by the Alabama Sports Writers Association. In March, Philon was named the state’s Player of the Year for 2022-23 by MaxPreps and Gatorade.

Philon, a top-50 recruit on the 247Sports Composite, also has scholarship offers from Alabama, Arkansas, LSU and others.
