Bryan Harsin buyout: How much Auburn would have to pay to fire coach without cause
Bryan Harsin’s future at Auburn is unclear after this weekend, in which rumors circulated and former players bickered on social media about how they were treated.
But, if the Tigers are to fire Harsin before the 2022 season, they’ll have to be ready to open the checkbooks once again.
Per Harsin’s contract, if he is fired without cause, his buyout is $18.3 million, with more than $9 million of it due within 30 days:
For reference, Bryan Harsin’s buyout owed if fired *without* cause is around $18.3 million, with 50% paid within 30 days. No offset.
It’s nearly the exact same buyout format Gus Malzahn had (70% guaranteed for Harsin, 75% for Malzahn).

As mentioned in the above tweet, that’s a pretty similar buyout structure to what former Auburn coach Gus Malzahn had.
Will Auburn be willing to write another huge check to get rid of Harsin after only a year? The drama continues on The Plains.
