This year, many Auburn fans were frustrated with the way the Tigers’ offense performed, struggling for most of the season under head coach Gus Malzahn and OC Chip Lindsey.

For WR Darius Slayton, those offensive struggles were frustrating, and he decided to forgo his senior season and enter the 2019 NFL Draft.

In an article by AL.com on Sunday, Slayton said he didn’t think the Auburn offense put him in the best positions to showcase his skills:

“I think a lot of people think, I feel like a lot of people see somebody declare, maybe, and are like, ‘Ah, this kid’s just leaving, go for the money,’” Slayton said. “But, it was extremely hard.”

The other important factor for Slayton was frustration in his role at Auburn.

“I think I had a chance to make plays,” Slayton said. “But I definitely think I didn’t always get a chance to show my full ability of what I’m capable of doing.”

As a sophomore in 2017, Slayton had 29 catches for 643 yards and five touchdowns. In 2018, he had 35 catches for 670 yards and five more scores.

We’ll see where he ends up going in the draft, but it’s clear he thought he had a better chance in the NFL than at Auburn.
