Hugh Freeze has done a great job with Auburn in Year 1 of his tenure on The Plains. After thumping Arkansas last year, the Tigers secured a bowl berth with win No. 6.

They were supposed to easily land win No. 7 on Saturday at home for a Cupcake Week showdown against New Mexico State. Apparently no one told the Aggies they were supposed to be cupcakes, though.

Auburn’s offense struggled all game long. New Mexico State not only won, but won convincingly in Jordan-Hare Stadium.

After the 31-10 loss, social media was abuzz with criticism of Freeze. Here’s a sampling of what was said after one of Auburn’s worst losses in recent years (and that’s saying something):

Crazy things happen in Jordan-Hare Stadium. We all know that. It’s just that, usually, the weirdness benefits the Tigers.

What a disappointing loss for Auburn and Freeze heading into the Iron Bowl. Can the Tigers shake this loss off quickly?
