After starting seven games last season for Southern Miss at quarterback, Keon Howard recently announced he will not play football next season for the Eagles.

Howard made nine total appearances in 2017, passing for 1,199 yards, eight touchdowns to five interceptions. While his overall numbers won’t jump out at you, he did excel during Southern Miss’s three-game win streak in October. During that stretch, Howard threw for 733 yards and seven touchdowns.

His decision is somewhat relevant to the SEC as Southern Miss is scheduled to travel to Auburn on Sept. 29. The Tigers have won the previous three matchups in the series, dating back to 1992.
