Auburn quarterback Devin Adams has spent the last two seasons on an SEC football team, but has been paying his college tuition to be able to do it.

Going into Adams’ senior season, Auburn coach Gus Malzahn awarded the walk-on a scholarship, and the official Auburn Instagram account posted a video with a clearly emotional Adams receiving the scholarship surrounded by his teammates.

Malzahn also announced his special nickname for Adams — “The Natural.”

“Never complained one time,” said Malzahn in the video. “Just do whatever he can to help the team.”

Adams was a 3-star pro-style quarterback coming out of Vigor High School in Mobile in 2014, and he spent two seasons at Mississippi Delta Community College before coming to Auburn. He has only reached the field once in his career at Auburn, completely 1-of-2 passes and running the ball twice for 6 yards in a game against Georgia Southern in 2017.

Adams later posted a picture on his Instagram page, with the caption “Love is an understatement…”

The Auburn quarterback room is now up to five scholarship players, with Jarrett Stidham, Malik Willis, Joey Gatewood, Cord Sandberg, and now Devin Adams.
