The Georgia Bulldogs suffocated the Clemson Tigers Saturday night 10-3 to start the season 1-0. The Dawgs relentless defense stifled Tigers QB DJ Uiagalelei, as he was sacked 7 times.

Kirby Smart’s defense allowed Clemson just 2 rushing yards on the night, and now, Clemson has lost back-to-back games for the first time in 127 games.

Dabo Swinney spoke to the media following the Tigers’ loss to the Bulldogs, and below is everything he said about the Georgia Bulldogs.

Opening Statement

“Obviously we’re incredibly disappointed with the outcome of the game, but congratulations to Georgia, that was a heavyweight fight. Really tough matchup just like we knew it was going to be. We knew points were going to be hard to come by. I’m super proud of our defense. I thought they battled their tails off. We gave ourself a chance. We got a big turnover, because we were in field goal range and ended up taking a sack. We got the turnover on punt team and just couldn’t capitalize. Both offenses kind of had some heavy work against these defenses and we just didn’t do a good enough job offensively when opportunities were there to take advantage.”

On Georgia’s defense and Clemson’s struggles up front

“Disappointed, certainly that we didn’t play better. Again, Georgia’s a great front. They’re incredibly talented and so are we. If we don’t give up the pick six, it’s a 3-3 game coming down to the wire. No question we’ve got to do a better job. We started a true freshman at left guard. There’s going to be some good and bad on tape. We’ve got to do a better job as coaches to make sure we put them in position to be successful. This was two really good football teams tonight and that’s going to prove out to be the case as we go through the season. Tonight, they made a few more plays than we did. We’ve got to grow up from it.”

Was DJ Uiagalelei affected by Georgia’s pressure?
“The first part of the game I through D.J. was affected some, but I thought the last quarter and a half he responded. Again, this was a tough matchup. You want to see a guy respond to the success and respond to the adversity. He got better, he didn’t get worse and that’s what you want to see in a young quarterback. That third and 9 throw to Ngata, wish we could’ve converted down there. Two score game, we just didn’t capitalize. There’s nobody that cares more. Incredibly talented player. This will be one that grows him up even quicker, for sure.”

On defending JT Daniel and Georgia’s offense
“We felt like we matched up well in the run game and we did. Wish we could’ve better job of keeping them off the field, but we dropped eight and had a lot of stunts and twists. We were able to get some pressure. We did a good job, just changing it up and trying to give them different looks. We felt like if we could manage the run game and get them out of what they wanted to do, we matched up pretty well.”
