The SEC has 10 teams in the NCAA Tournament field, which tied a record, and the top baseball conference in America also flexed its muscles with a record-setting 8 of the top 16 teams in the field.

Mike Rooney on the ESPN2 Selection Special put it in perspective about the SEC.

“To me, the elephant in the room is just the SEC’s utter dominance of our sport,” Rooney said. “We’re a play away from them having won 5 straight national titles. Their 9th-place team won the national title last year. … Is there another league or a team that can draw a line in the sand and push back.”

Kyle Peterson on ESPN2 also praised LSU star pitcher Paul Skenes, who has delivered an impressive performance this season. Skenes has 90 1/3 innings pitched and has a 1.89 ERA with 167 strikeouts, which leads the country.

“Find me a more dominant year in the last 20 years on the mound,” Peterson said. “I mean, you’ve probably got to go (Stephen) Strasburg is similar to it. Ben McDonald struck out 202 humans in one season at LSU, and Paul Skenes has a chance to break the unbreakable record. If they keep playing on, I think he will.”
