The top five in the Associated Press Top 25 will likely stay the same. The bottom five, however, is a different story.

No. 1 Alabama, No. 2 Georgia, No. 3 Clemson, No. 4 Ohio State and No. 5 LSU all won their games. Some in the media may advocate Ohio State moving ahead of Clemson. The Buckeyes beat No. 9 Penn State on the road while the Tigers needed a late touchdown to overcome an upset bid from unranked Syracuse after starting QB Trevor Lawrence left the game with injury. AP voters, however, have been mostly reluctant to ding a team that manages to still win. Some will likely be torn with what to do.

At this point, through Week 5, almost any time a team ranked No. 20 lower loses, a spot is opened up in the polls. On Saturday, No. 20 BYU, No. 22 Duke, No. 23 Mississippi State, No. 24 Cal and No. 25 Texas Tech all lost, opening up five likely new spots.

Colorado, Boise State and Virginia Tech were the top three unranked teams in “others receiving votes” of the Week 5 poll. With all three winning, they would appear to be in line to move up into the Top 25.

Florida was lower in “others receiving votes,” but is starting to look more a ranked team with a win over then-No. 23 and a 4-1 record with the only loss to the team currently ranked No. 17.
