The top six remain undefeated, but starting at No. 7, the stumbles started in Week 5.

Brace yourselves – we’re going to be hearing a lot about Notre Dame after the No. 8 Fighting Irish defeated No. 7 Stanford 38-17. We haven’t yet heard from the College Football Playoff selection committee, but all signs point to Notre Dame’s resume and record having a direct impact on how many teams from the SEC get into the final four. The Fighting Irish are an independent, but play many ACC teams. This year, Notre Dame does not face Clemson in the regular season.

No. 4 Ohio State is looking like the real deal. The Buckeyes came-from-behind to pull out a 27-26 over No. 9 Penn State in Beaver Stadium.

No. 10 Auburn did not look particularly impressive against Southern Miss, but will likely benefit from the losses by the team’s mentioned above.

No. 11 Washington could jump Auburn, but it will likely be hard for many voters to put the Huskies above the Tigers since AU won head-to-head in Week 1. It will certainly be something to watch when the Week 6 poll comes out.

The poll is likely to have quite a few teams drop out after No. 20 BYU, No. 22 Duke, No. 23 Mississippi State, No. 24 Cal and No. 25 Texas Tech all lost in Week 5.
