Kirk Herbstreit was on the call of the Rose Bowl College Football Playoff semifinal with Chris Fowler on Monday. The Rose Bowl played host to a CFP game for the 1st time since 2018, and the iconic Pasadena venue was set to play host to a 2021 semifinal before it was moved to AT&T Stadium due to COVID.

Herbstreit, though, stated on X on Tuesday that the Rose Bowl not only needed to enter the rotation as a site for the final, but should serve as the permanent championship site.

“I’ve been saying this for years and I’ll say it one more time. As the world of [college football] changes in so many ways I really wish the leaders and decision makers would just make the Rose Bowl Game the host for the National Championship EVERY YEAR!” he wrote. “The setting, beauty, field, and history of that place is unparalleled. [Monday] night was another chapter in its long and incredible history of memorable moments.”

Michigan defeated Alabama 27-20 in overtime to advance to its 1st-ever CFP championship game. The previous CFP semifinal in Pasadena needed an extra session as well — two, in fact — with Georgia defeating Oklahoma 54-48 in a thriller of a game.
