Billy Napier has tabbed Will Harris as Florida’s new secondary coach. The hiring was announced Monday after it was reported Sunday that Harris would be joining the staff.

Harris, 36, arrives in Gainesville from Los Angeles, where he was assistant secondary coach with the NFL’s Chargers this season.

“I’m very excited to be joining the University of Florida Football Program and such a dedicated and passionate staff,” Harris said via the team website. “It’s an honor, and I look forward to contributing to the legacy of excellence and the rich tradition that this program is known for.”

Harris previously coached at the college level from 2013-to-2022. He’s best known for his work at Washington and Georgia Southern.

At Washington, Harris worked with the defensive backs from 2018-to-2021. The Huskies produced All-American defensive backs in each of those 4 seasons (Trent McDuffie in 2021; Elijah Molden in 2020 and 2019; and Byron Murphy and Taylor Rapp in 2018).

Harris’ work in Seattle landed him the defensive coordinator job at Georgia Southern in 2022. Harris’ unit posted 15 red zone stops, which was second among FBS teams, and was in the top 20 nationally in red zone defense. Georgia Southern defenders recorded 11 interceptions and 65 pass breakups under Harris.

“Will Harris is an absolute professional. He will bring connection and confidence to our defensive backs room,” Napier said in a program release. “He has a great reputation and pedigree and will help our players reach their full potential as people, students and players. I’m excited to watch the impact he is going to have on our organization and team.”

Harris replaces Corey Raymond on the Florida defensive staff.
