The Florida secondary will be without a second-year defensive back this season.

Gators coach Dan Mullen confirmed in his Monday press conference that redshirt freshman safety Kamar Wilcoxson is out for the season after having surgery.

“Kamar Wilcoxson is going to miss the year,” Mullen told reporters. “He had knee surgery, so he’s going to miss the rest of the season.”

Wilcoxson’s knee injury happened in practice before the season opener. In late August, a Wilcoxson social media post talked of returning in 2022, though Mullen continued to describe him as “doubtful” with a “slight knee issue” before the Florida Atlantic game in Week 1.

A former 4-star recruit, Wilcoxson reclassified to join the 2020 class and enroll at Florida, skipping his high school senior season. He played against Missouri last season, recording a tackle and a fumble recovery.

Florida defensive back Jaydon Hill is also out for the year after tearing his ACL in fall camp.
