Gone are the days of Mike White and in is the Todd Golden era for Florida basketball.

Golden, the former San Francisco head coach and one of the top young minds in college basketball, led the Gators to a 1-sided 85-41 win over Stony Brook on opening night. Alex Fudge, Colin Castleton and Will Richard led the way in scoring, combining for 43 points.

Dick Vitale, the legendary college basketball commentator, held high praise for Golden following the win, citing his days of watching Golden’s Dons battle Gonzaga in the WCC.

Golden holds a new-age analytical approach to the game, tirelessly trying to find the best shot based on math and computer numbers. Essentially, expect the Gators to work a lot inside and shoot a lot of 3-pointers, meticulously defending a certain team a certain way based off their strengths and weaknesses via statistical models.

Of course, it’s more complicated than that. For Gators fans, it should be a fun ride.
