Double up: Former Florida punter Johnny Townsend signed to brother's team
Coaches in Florida and Kansas City have one thing in common – they can’t get enough Townsends.
On Tuesday, the Kansas City Chiefs signed Johnny Townsend to their practice squad. Johnny’s younger brother, Tommy Townsend, is the team’s starting punter. Chiefs Wire speculates that it is a COVID-19 precautionary move to have an extra punter available in case Tommy is ever unavailable.
Johnny was with the Raiders franchise in 2018, appearing in 16 games. He played at Florida from 2013-17. Tommy succeeded Johnny as the Gators’ punter after his older brother’s departure.
