If Notre Dame graduate transfer quarterback Malik Zaire does indeed wish to play for Florida next season, the SEC is going to allow him to do it. This according to Florida athletic director Scott Stricklin.

Stricklin met briefly with reporters on the final day of the SEC’s 2017 spring meetings and revealed the information. The SEC’s previous rule would have prevented Zaire from joining the team, as the rule stated a school could not accept a graduate transfer for three seasons if a past graduate transfer did not meet academic requirements after taking advantage of the graduate transfer rule.

The Gators had two such graduate transfers, Anthony Harrell and Mason Halter, that did not meet their academic requirements at Florida after transferring to Gainesville in 2015.

Zaire has not yet publicly stated his college of choice, but reports indicate he was waiting for this ruling before making a final decision. Texas is another choice he is considering, but given that he could have already joined the Longhorns, it makes sense that Zaire was waiting to see what the SEC would rule.
