Florida has played its Orange and Blue Game on Thursday each of the past two seasons. This year, the Gators are offering fans a spring Saturday in The Swamp.

Billy Napier’s squad will host its spring game on April 13, the program announced on social media. The game’s kickoff is set for 1 p.m. ET.

Starting quarterback Graham Mertz (2,903 yards, 20 TD, 3 INT) is back at Florida for his final CFB season, but another QB is likely to draw fans to The Swamp in April.

DJ Lagway headlines Florida’s 2024 recruiting class. The 5-star signee out of Texas was named National Player of the Year by both Gatorade and MaxPreps. Leading Willis to a 12-1 record, Lagway passed for 4,604 yards and a 6A state record 58 touchdowns, posting a 72.1 completion percentage in the process. A dual-threat quarterback, Lagway also led his team in rushing yards (957) and touchdowns (16).

Lagway is one of 26 newcomers who have made it to campus for the spring semester. The Gators have 16 early enrollees from high school and 10 transfers. Five-star DL LJ McCray and 4-star LB Myles Graham, a Florida legacy, are among the other notable early enrollees participating in spring practice.

The Gators had 12 true freshmen play in 10 or more games of the 2023 season. Eugene Wilson III was a standout freshman, finishing second on the team with 61 catches for 538 yards over 10 games (7 starts). Wilson led the team in receiving touchdowns with 6.

UF will be hoping for its youth to grow up fast. Coming off a 5-7 season, the Gators face one of the nation’s toughest schedules in 2024, starting with Miami in The Swamp on Aug. 31.
