Florida defensive back Jadarrius Perkins announced on Thursday that he is entering the transfer portal after a week into the 2023 season.

Perkins made the announcement on social media. He thanked former Florida head coach Dan Mullen, athletic director Scott Stricklin and his teammates for his time with the team.

“I want to appreciate Dan Mullen and Scott Strickland for giving me the Opportunity to be a Gator something I’ll remember and cherish forever,” Perkins wrote. “With that being said I have decided to enter my name in the Transfer Portal as a Graduate. A really unfortunate situation I love all of my teammates that has kept me up throughout everything. Outside noise mean zero only the people in this circle knows the real and that’s all that truly matters.

“Wishing my brothers luck in finishing this season you guys works so hard for it.”

A senior with the Gators, Perkins is entering the transfer portal as a graduate student. In 20 games for the Gators that go back to the 2021 season, Perkins tallied 40 tackles, an interception and 3 pass breakups.

Florida is coming off a 24-11 loss to nationally-ranked Utah on Aug. 31. Perkins, who mainly played defensive back for the team, recorded a tackle in the contest.

The Gators will gear up for a nonconference home matchup against McNeese at 7:30 p.m. ET Saturday. Following this game, Florida will prepare for its first SEC opponent in Tennessee at 7 p.m. on Sept. 16.
