Billy Napier retained Corey Bell as part of his off-field staff, but the veteran assistant is now reportedly leaving to be an on-field coach again.

Bell is headed to FIU as the team’s cornerbacks coach and recruiting coordinator. The news was first reported by Walter Villa before reports by ESPN and 247Sports.

Bell’s departure comes just 8 days after he was announced as a quality control coach working with running backs. The move to FIU takes Bell back to his hometown and coaching a more familiar position.

A Miami native, Bell was Florida’s secondary coach for the 2017 season under Jim McElwain. After Dan Mullen took over and made new staff hires, Bell followed former UF defensive coordinator Randy Shannon to UCF, coaching Knights cornerbacks for 3 seasons (2018-20). Ahead of the 2021 season, Bell returned to UF, joining Mullen’s staff as a director of player personnel, an off-field position.
