Florida is on the board for the class of 2023 recruiting.

One day after receiving a scholarship offer from the Gators, in-state defensive Shawn Russ back decided to verbally pledge to Dan Mullen’s staff.

“Hard-work and Dedication Can actually pay off,” Russ posted on his Twitter account. “I’m not done working…but god works in mysterious ways and without god I wouldn’t be able to do this….I’m 1000% Committed to University Of Florida…..Ps: I still love my FSU and Miami Family.”

Currently just a freshman, Russ is listed at 6-2, 185 pounds. He does not yet have a star-rating from 247Sports, but analyst Andrew Ivins identified him as a top performer at Deion Sanders’ Prime 239 Elite 7v7 Tournament in February:

The youngster out of Fort Myers Dunbar worked at cornerback and had multiple pass break ups in coverage. This past fall he stated on varsity and picked off five passes. That has resulted in early offers form Miami, Virginia and Georgia Tech.

Florida State offered Russ after the 7-on-7 event. UF was the fifth team to offer the 2023 prospect.
