Personal rivalries drive a lot of motivation across the SEC, and Florida RB Lamical Perine has taken on a personal crusade so far at SEC Media Days.

The Mobile, Alabama native, who declined to flip to Alabama from Florida, has also said Monday at SEC Media Days that Auburn didn’t recruit him. Fortunately for him, he has the rare chance to face Auburn on the field as Florida hasn’t met the Tigers since 2011, and won’t again for another six years.

“I’m not an Auburn fan at all,” Perine said, according to AL.com. “They recruited me a little bit. But I didn’t have an offer from them. They told me I was too slow. You can tell on my film, you can tell I’m not that slow. They had their opinion.”

Perine had 11 offers coming out of high school, including Alabama and Mississippi State.

“I remember those words,” he said. “Saying they felt I needed to get my speed up. And things like that, and I’ll never forget that. Honestly, that didn’t stop Florida and other schools from offering me.”

According to Perine, that talent evaluation was unique.

“No, that was just something from Auburn.”

For those planning ahead, Florida will play host to Auburn on Oct. 5.
