Florida releases positive statement about Keyontae Johnson's health ahead of Christmas
Only three days ahead of Christmas, the Florida basketball team, Keyontae Johnson and his family have received some special news.
Johnson is set to be released from the hospital.
“We continue to be amazed at the pace of his recovery and look forward to spending Christmas together as a family,” the Johnson family said in a statement released by Florida basketball.
The statement did not clarify the extent of Johnson’s illness, as it said medical professionals continue to work on the issue. The statement added that the family would share information at the appropriate time.
Johnson collapsed and fell face-first while heading back onto the court after a first-half timeout during a game at Florida State on Dec. 12. Players on the court quickly motioned for medical help, and he was taken off the court on a stretcher before being rushed to Tallahassee Memorial. Johnson was then transferred to a Gainesville hospital, and showed improvements in the coming days.
Johnson’s family provided updates on his status, which gradually improved in the days following the incident. He was eventually upgraded to stable condition, showed “encouraging signs of progress.”
Johnson himself released an encouraging video last week.
