Kyle Trask is the new starting quarterback for the Florida Gators after Feleipe Franks’ injury last week, and he’s making the most of his opportunity.

As the Gators lead SEC East rival Tennessee 17-3 in the third quarter, Trask has made some nice throws.

At halftime, legendary Florida coach and quarterback Steve Spurrier said Trask’s throwing motion reminds him of another Florida legend — Danny Wuerffel (via 247Sports):

“Yeah, he does, very catchable. Very catchable,” Spurrier said. “He’s a good player. He’s about 6-4, so he’s a tall quarterback.”

Spurrier also credited Trask for sticking it out in Florida as the backup instead of transferring:

“You don’t (see that much),” Spurrier said. “Kyle’s a little different because he didn’t have a glamorous high school career. I think he came to camp here and they really liked him and offered him a scholarship.

“But he’s a smart kid. He wants to graduate from Florida, he knows the advantages of staying here. If you go somewhere and sit that would be stupid. All of his family, friends, they’re here and so forth. So that was smart thing to do and now he’s got his chance to play.”
