Florida has one of the toughest season openers in the country, and while the game is in Gainesville, Billy Napier gets a strong dose of a test in Utah to start his Gators tenure.

ESPN will have Bob Wischusen, Dan Orlovsky, and Kris Budden on the call in Week 1 for the matchup, according to the sports media account Fake Rudy Martzke. This game was first reported to be scheduled about 3 years ago, and there’s expected to be a return game next season in Salt Lake City.

Utah is a favorite to win the Pac-12 and seen by some as a dark horse contender for the College Football Playoff.

The programs last met in 1977, a 38-29 victory in a game coached by Doug Dickey and Wayne Howard. The Gators went 6-4-1 that season.

At the time the home-and-home series was scheduled, then-coach Dan Mullen explained that because they play in the SEC already, the tough schedule is built in, but the Gators want to have one game away from home each year to align with their recruiting philosophy. We’ll see if Billy Napier shares that sentiment moving forward.
