Former Alabama DB Jameer Grimsley signee has decided to play closer to home after entering the NCAA transfer portal. The former Tampa Catholic standout will play his first season at Florida, he announced on Sunday via social media.

Grimsley is a 2024 recruit. He had to enter the NCAA transfer portal to change teams following Nick Saban’s retirement because he enrolled at Alabama.

Grimsley’s listed measurements are 6-3, 185 pounds. On the 247Sports Composite, Grimsley is rated 4-tars, the No. 17 cornerback, No. 24 player in the state of Florida and No. 189 prospect overall in the Class of 2024.

Billy Napier and staff make the most of second chance

Grimsley committed to Alabama on July 1. While Florida would have preferred to win the initial commitment, Billy Napier and his staff showed why it can pay off to keep recruiting a committed prospect.

The Gators continued to pursue Grimsley while he was verbally pledged to the Tide. Grimsley attended UF’s season finale against Florida State in The Swamp and returned to Gainesville in December for an official visit.

Like most everyone, Grimsley did not see Saban’s retirement coming. He kept his commitment and inked with Alabama in December’s Early Signing Period.

When Saban stunned the college football world, Florida’s relationship with Grimsley paid off. Grimsley entered the transfer portal and announced he would be considering LSU and Florida. LSU recently brought back legendary defensive backs coach Corey Raymond after two seasons at Florida.
