Gary Danielson will be in the CBS booth with Brad Nessler at Neyland Stadium on Saturday as Florida travels to Rocky Top to take on Tennessee.

One of the talking points of the afternoon will be if Anthony Richardson can bounce back from a slow start to the 2022 season. The Gators signal-caller hasn’t thrown a touchdown in the first 3 games but has tossed 4 interceptions. What’s more, he’s been held in check on the ground since running for 106 yards and 3 touchdowns on 11 carries against Utah, going for just 13 run attempts and 28 yards since then.

While Richardson was thought of as a top NFL Draft QB prospect before the season, Danielson isn’t convinced.

“I think all of the hype is way, way out of whack,” Danielson told the Tampa Bay Times’ Matt Baker. “He’s a really good prospect, but the claim that he’s a first-round pick was ludicrous. He needs a couple of years of throwing 300 balls, and you get used to being a pocket passer and emerge…He’s high on numerous throws. The timing looks off. I don’t think it’s as simple as right now an accomplished quarterback fighting with a new system. I think it’s a guy who’s struggling to stand in the pocket and hit his target.”

If Richardson doesn’t find his footing, Danielson feels the prognosis of the Gators is grim the rest of the way.

“Frankly, if Florida doesn’t up their quarterback play, it’s not going to be good enough against the competition they’re going to face (on Saturday) or maybe the rest of their schedule,” he said.
