Kyle Pitts did not play in Florida’s loss to LSU on Saturday as he recovered from what was described as a “lingering injury” he picked up against Tennessee on Dec. 5.

His absence turned out to be a massive one as the Gators fell to the Tigers in Gainesville, seeing their College Football Playoff hopes all but vanquished ahead of the SEC Championship Game against Alabama on Dec. 19.

During the coaches’ teleconference on Sunday, Florida head coach Dan Mullen provided an update on the possible status of Pitts, stating that the junior tight end should be ready to play against the Crimson Tide in Atlanta.

The Tide should be favored to win this one and book punch their ticket to the Playoff, but the Gators will have one of its most potent weapons at their disposal as they look to hand Alabama its first loss of the season at the most critical time. He has recorded 36 catches for 641 yards and 11 touchdowns as half of a dynamic offensive tandem with quarterback Kyle Trask.

Mullen also updated the status of linebacker Jeremiah Moon and safety Shawn Davis, who will be available on Saturday along with linebacker Ty’Ron Hopper and running back Nay’quan Wright. Linebacker David Reese is not expected to play, however.
